Hope your Summer is going as splendidly as mine!! Oh wait…
So I am pretty darn swamped with school right now… In an attempt to mix business with pleasure, I am going to take a moment to talk about the utility curve. The utility curve is something used in economics and decision theory, as well as some other areas of business (and probably other areas as well). An ordinary person has a concave (bending away from you if you are standing underneath it… like a dome concert stadium) utility curve. It looks something like this:

“Utility” is basically the joy you get from gaining some material object. When you have nothing, gaining utility from an object is really easy. When you have a lot, gaining utility from an object is really hard.
Think of it as… you just ate a spoonful of peanut butter. That first glass of milk you had was absolutely AMAZING (lots of utility) and then you have another glass and it was pretty good (some utility) and then you have another glass and it was okay (a little utility) and then you have another glass and it was eh (hardly any utility).
The point of this post is to say… I am so glad I didn’t grow up having everything I wanted. I see people around me who get everything they want and get so little utility and joy out of the shit they have, and it just makes me sad. They end up acting in extreme ways, trying to gain utility where there is nothing to be gained.

I can still dream and want and strive. I am so happy that I am still at a point in my life where I gain joy out of most things and can stay positive. Even though there are so many amazing things I want to do, I’m very glad I am pacing myself. I am so happy that I am still drinking my first glass of milk.
I probably won’t be updating for a few days because of school… hope you are all doing lovely :].

Super old news at this point, but my love for these Jeremy Scott Adidas was renewed when I saw them on lookbook yesterday. A few months ago I saw them in Nylon and fell in love with them, but eventually forgot they existed. When I showed them to David he said “what purpose does that serve?” but come on, do you really need a purpose to have sweet wings on your shoes? I think not!
This guy on the Satorialist has been my hair inspiration the last couple of days. I had my hair in curlers a couple of nights ago. I got up and did my hair and then grabbed a cup of coffee and checked my bloglovin. After seeing him I immediately went and poofed the heck out of my hair. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to fro out my hair that much, but I did make it about 5 times bigger than it was before
.
If you haven’t seen how fricking adorable Emma Watson looks in Teen Vogue, you should probably see these. I am terribly excited to see Harry Potter on opening night… even though no one will dress up with me, haha.
I left this fabulous tutorial opened in a window on my desktop for about a week before I finally closed it. I knew if I closed it I would never getting around to reopening it and trying the tutorial. That was a month ago :-/. Anyways, this tutorial on embellished tights is fabulous! I would probably get a run in them the first time I wore them, knowing how clumsy I am, but they are so lovely it would probably be worth it.
So I have accounts at all of the fashion sites (stylemob… chictopia… modepass… probably some others) and never really post in them. It seems like they all have kinks or confuse me or I just don’t want to take the time to learn to get around. When darling Jane (she and her boy run Burger and Friends!) invited me to join lookbook I was excited because it’s the only fashion site I actually look at, but didn’t really think I’d end up posting anything. But it’s super easy to get around and I like it a lot more than the others, even though I’ve only been on it one day! Go be my friend

We did a secret package exchange at the message board I’ve been posting at since I was 17 (!) and an adorable girl named Sarah got me as her partner. She sent me lots of cutie pie things, but my favorite was this necklace! It’s so pretty! I’ve been wearing it any time it matches. It has real flowers set in resin (or something). So cute

I got in to Texas Tech for my MBA! My family is kind of obsessed with Texas Tech, but when I was looking at schools I never really considered it because I wasn’t excited about living in Lubbock. But then David got accepted into their PhD program and I started playing around with the idea of applying and researched the program a bit more… and decided I liked it a lot
. I applied a couple of weeks ago and am really excited I got in, woo!
So, I realize that my main demographic of readers are not college students, but I know SOMEONE out there must need help studying. I just got back my last *big* college test… the last test that I thought would give me trouble… and received 102/100 (112 with extra credit). How did I do this? By studying. It’s crazy, I know, but studying helps you pass tests. Below are all of my study tips that I HIGHLY RECOMMEND. They have yet to do me wrong.
on powerpoint presentations:
on memorization:

cheesy, but very helpful.

Hope this helps someone out there, and good luck!
