Howto:// Feather Headband

February 1st, 2010

Finally, the feather headband howto!  It really is quite simple, the hardest part is finding and grooming the feathers.  This tutorial is mostly on how to knot the wire through the feathers.

WHAT YOU NEED:

  • 6 or 8 full, black feathers, around 5 or 6 inches after trimming them.  I used these, which unfortunately come in a variety pack, so I ended up having to buy 3 packs (lord knows what I will use the other colors for)
  • A sharpie
  • Thin, black wire (you can find this with jewelry making supplies)
  • Wire Cutters
  • A thin black head band
  • Necklace chain (also found in jewelry making section)
  • A needle (or safety pin)

STEPS:

1.  First and foremost, you have to prepare your feathers!  I chose to use three on each side of the headband, but you may want to use four… whatever floats your boat.  Cut the stems (stems?) to identical lengths, and prune the feathers down so that they are as symmetrical as possible.  Cut the stems diagonally so that some of the white center shows, and then color that white center with a sharpie (you can see what I mean more clearly in picture two).  This is basically to make it easier for the needle to pierce through the feather, so if you think you can push the needle through this isn’t an absolute requirement.

This review on Urban Outfitters is amazing.  I can’t believe only 1 of 4 people found it helpful!  To me, it was very helpful… at making me laugh.  I ALWAYS go to the club with my mom in matching thigh high boots <33333.

If I had $40,000…

January 26th, 2010

So the darling Tiffany, who runs I Am Style-ish, posted this crazy giveaway from net-a-porter, in which their millionth customer gets a $40,000 shopping spree.  Uh… yes please?  So I am going to copy Tiffany and post some of the many things I would buy :].

(ITEM ROLE CALL:  Valentino bag, $2150, Marni bag, $770, Burberry slip, $695, Chloe wedges, $695, Thread Social dress, $395, Minnetonka booties, $45, D&G Dolce&Gabbana dress, $745, and Oscar De La Renta headband, $590)

*le sigh* I love it all.  The only thing I should probably even consider purchasing right now though is the $45 dollar minnetonkas, heh.  I am/have been obsessed with those chloe wedges, though.  I am really not a wedge person, but everyone once in a while I just fall in love with a pair.  Oh, dream dream dream.  Must stop.

“Sample Sale” Sites

January 21st, 2010

012110_1

So, I have an addiction lately.  To all of those “sample sale” sites!  I am fricking obsessed with checking them!  I have bought a couple of things, but there are so many things I am in love with and somehow scrounge up the strength to resist purchasing.  By “sample sale” it is really more like “last season sale” but I really don’t care.  Here are some things that are currently on them that I’m jonesing for.

1.  This dress by Alexia Admor on Ideeli:  I am usually not into this sort of style, but I love the way this one looks!  It looks very flattering and feminine.  Alexia Admor has a ton of other cute dresses on their site, as well.  (here is an invite link, if you’re not a member)

2.  This bag by SamSara on Beyond the Rack:  I guess samsara is like… a cheaper brand by matt and nat.  I really was considering getting this and then it sold out!  It is the perfect size to fit a laptop or a couple of notebooks for class.  Sad it is gone :-/.  (here is an invite link, if you’re not a member)

3.  This Marc by Marc Jacobs dress on Gilt:  Omg, this dress has been on Gilt twice, and both times I haven’t been able to snatch it up quick enough.  I literally speed walked out of my last class to make it in time for this sale, clicked on it, and it was out of my size >:{.  They have a ton of other lovely marc by marc things up right now though!  (here is an invite link, if you’re not a member)

4.  This Cathrine Malandrino dress on Rue La La:  I can’t believe how low this dress is marked.  I love the color and the little ruffles all over and the little baby sleeves.  Definitely on my radar!  (here is an invite link, if you’re not a member)

5.  This sideboard by Coast to Coast on Hautelook:  Okay, so I am always obsessed with clothes, but they have some cool furniture and such also!  I would love love to buy this, but I can’t even imagine how much they are charging for shipping.  For now I will just drool.  (here is an invite link, if you’re not a member)

So… I highly suggest you check out these sites if you want a new shopping addiction.  You may not find something you are in love with the first time you check them, but if you check them periodically, you can get some really great deals!  Just shop in moderation :) .

In other news, I just checked the fridge at school (we have a lounge area for MBA students) and some fricking doucher stole the muscle milk I put in there this morning.  I literally had it in there less than two hours before it disappeared. How uncool is that?!?  So now I am grouchy and hungry and totally annoyed.  >:{.

The Rip-Off Artist

January 17th, 2010

011710_1

I am ridiculously in love with this headband on 80s purple, but I can never ever see myself paying that much (or even half that much) for a headband.  I bought all of the materials to make it myself and started to put it together, with a tutorial.  But… unfortunately the feathers I bought were much less whimsical and much more dirty crow… and I kind of went full retard :-/.  So as soon as the feathers I ordered from JoAnns arrive, I’ll put the howto up!  I can’t believe how hard it is to find nice, full, black feathers.  The ones I ordered are the best I’ve seen, hopefully they turn out okay!

I apologize if anyone is offended by my rippy-offy-ness.  If you are, I have no problem with you buying me the lovely headband in exchange for me not posting the tutorial, haha.

On another note, it is crazy how much the above picture reminds me of Rhiannon.  Am I the only one who sees this?!

You Fail Me, USPS

October 5th, 2009

This isn’t just me, is it?  I have had so many problems with USPS.  Slow, terrible tracking information, and ususally not particularly nice when I go in (or used to) to deliver a package.  Meh.

Hair Did

October 1st, 2009

I don’t know if any of you can tell, but I colored my hair extra gingery!  Obvz I’m a natural red head, but lately I’ve been really bored with my hair and wanted to kick it up a notch.  I bought some very bright ginger hair color and am so happy with the way it turned out.  It’s like my normal hair color on speed.

Ruche

September 22nd, 2009

I have a new favorite online store, and it goes by the name of Ruche.  It’s like a… filtered baby hybrid of free people and mod cloth, with amazing prices.  The items they have are all just so feminine and lovely and detailed.  The first thing on my list when I have some disposable income is this amazing wool jacket with pleated arm details.  Everything about it is prrrrfect.  I hope it doesn’t sell out before I hav ea chance to buy it, things tend to sell out very quickly here!  I suggest you all check out the lovely items they have!

Daily Outfit

June 28th, 2009

I’m a little bit obsessed with this scarf I got in Chinatown while in San Fran.  I’ve been wearing it all the time around my neck, mostly because I’m not daring enough to wear it starlet style, which is why I bought it in the first place.  Along the lines of not being daring, I bought these heels (jessica simpson, which I usually don’t like) to wear for my graduation and at the last minute decided I was too afraid I’d trip and fall whilst walking up the stairs.  Rest of outfit is h&m skirt, thrifted bag, sunglasses from urban, and shirt from kohls (I swear, all of my best collared shirts come from kohls).

Hope your Sunday is going well and amazingly lazy :) .

ps.  Oh my gosh, I completely forgot that today is Meeshu’s birthday.  I am embarrassed to say that my MOM actually called today to remind me.  Meeshu was probably lazily sadly lying around today, 16 candles-esqu, waiting for us to give him doggie treats and extra attention.  Oops :( .  Happy 4th birthday, Meeshu!
